GPBookBlog: The Hidden Life of Emily Dickinson by John Evangelist Walsh
The Hidden Life of Emily Dickinson by John Evangelist Walsh is a biography of Emily Dickinson. I am sure there have been many written but this is the only one I have read. This particular story starts out a little sluggish but picks up speed as soon as Emily’s love-life comes in to question. I should say the speculations of her love life because there were, apparently, many even while she was alive. According to this author Emily not only came dangerously close to plagiarism in her writing but was also quite “wild” for her time which was during the 1800’s. She apparently was also hopelessly naïve and fairly self-centered and maybe even a little off balance. There does seem to be compelling evidence that she did practice plagiarism or something very close to it. Not so sure about the love affairs though, it seems to me they were all one sided. Anyway, it is an old book, copyright 1971, but if you can find it you might want to give it a try. Try your library that is where I found it.
